How I Met Your Mother has everything I look for in a TV show: comedy, romance, and drama. The series revolves around protagonist Ted Mosby’s story about meeting his children’s mother while in his twenties in Manhattan. The tale involves five friends: Ted (Josh Radnor), Marshall (Jason Segel), Lily (Alyson Hannigan), Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), and Robin (Cobie Smulders). They see each other daily and are practically inseparable. Through many girlfriends, parties, and road trips, the lovesick Ted finds the path that leads him to the girl of his dreams— though the viewer is left wondering until the final season who that girl is.
I loved this show so much that I watched episodes in between classes because I was so eager to find out what happened next. How I Met Your Mother is similar to the TV show Friends, though the humor is modernized. The series will bring you joy through these sad times while providing a long series to which you can comfortably commit. The actors have this unmatched ability to depict their characters with depth and humor. Many fans are dissatisfied with the ending, but I thought it gave the entire show an extra layer of depth. How I Met Your Mother is nine seasons long, and each season has 20–24 episodes, which are each 22 minutes long. I binge-watched the show, but I’d say it still took me about a month and a half or two months to complete. You can stream it on Hulu or buy it on iTunes or Youtube.
I sincerely hope you watch How I Met Your Mother and that it brings you as much joy, laughter, and bitter-sweetness as it brought me!
